Getting Your Bathroom Heat Just Right
When you’re picking out an infrared lamp for your bathroom, the instinct is usually to just grab the most powerful one on the shelf. But here’s the thing: more power isn’t always better. It’s really all about the size of your room. If you get the balance wrong, you’re either wasting money on electricity or shivering in a cold shower.
The Size Factor
Think about your space. A tiny powder room doesn’t need much—usually something between 250W and 500W does the trick. The heat fills that small area almost instantly. Now, if you’re dealing with a big master bath, that’s a different story. You’ll probably want a higher wattage or, better yet, a few different lamps spaced about 1.5 meters apart. That way, you don’t end up with “cold spots” where you’re freezing in one corner while the other side of the room is a sauna. And a word of warning: don’t overdo it in a small space. You could actually overheat the fixture. On the flip side, if the lamp is too weak, it’ll just run non-stop trying to reach the right temperature, which kills the filament way faster.
The Technical Stuff (Simplified)
Most of our lamps use shortwave technology. In plain English? They heat you, not the air. It’s an immediate, cozy warmth the second you step under it. But before you start installing, check your circuit breaker. A 1000W lamp pulls a lot of power. If you throw four of those into one bathroom and then turn on a hair dryer or a heated towel rack, you’re probably going to trip a standard 16A circuit. My advice? Go with a few mid-range lamps spread out. It’s a much safer way to balance the electrical load.
Comfort vs. Intensity
High-wattage lamps hit you with a real punch of heat. That feels amazing on a freezing January morning, but in a tight shower stall, it can feel a bit oppressive. It’s all about distance. If you’re mounting these in the ceiling, try to keep them at least 2.1 meters up. This gives the heat a chance to spread out before it hits your skin, so it feels like a warm hug rather than a heat lamp at a buffet.
