
Getting Your PC Preforms Just Right on SACMI Rotary Machines
When you’re running a SACMI rotary blow molder, things move fast. Really fast. If you’re working with PC (polycarbonate), you’ve probably noticed that the window for getting the heat exactly right is tiny. One second too long or too short, and you’re in trouble. That’s why we built our heater modules the way we did. We wanted to kill that annoying lag between flipping the switch and actually hitting peak temperature. Dealing with that thermal lag To keep up with those high cycle speeds, it all comes down to how the filament reacts. We went with short-wave infrared halogen tech. Here’s the thing: standard elements tend to waste time heating up the air around them first. These lamps don’t do that. They dump energy straight into the PC material. We’ve tweaked the wattage and voltage so the lamps hit their stride in milliseconds. It saves you from that “cold start” headache where the first few bottles of a batch come out under-heated and useless. The nuts and bolts We use high-purity quartz glass because it doesn’t burn out nearly as fast. And we kept the connectors simple—standard drop-in replacements. You shouldn’t have to spend your afternoon rewiring a rack just to swap a lamp. We also tightened the tolerances on the lamp length. It stops the lamps from shifting around in the module, which means the heat hits the preform wall consistently every single time. The catch: Heat vs. Air Now, there is a trade-off. High-wattage lamps give you the snap and speed the SACMI rhythm demands, but they put a lot of pressure on your cooling system. If your ventilation is clogged or just wasn’t built for this kind of load, you’re going to bake the ends of the lamps and fry your quartz. These modules are built to take a beating on a 24/7 line. They ramp up fast and stay steady—as long as you keep your airflow dialed in.
