Getting Your Sidel Ovens Back in Top Shape
Heating PET preforms is a bit of a balancing act. If you get it wrong, you end up with a bottle base that’s overheated or a shoulder that’s still too cold. It’s a headache. That’s why we build our replacement lamps to fit the whole Sidel lineup—everything from those old-school SBO units to the newer Matrix series.
The Truth About “Perfect Fit”
When people talk about a “universal” fit, it usually sounds like a compromise. But in this business, it just means we did the homework. We’ve mapped out the voltage and wattage for the entire Sidel fleet. Why? Because the last thing you need is a lamp that trips your breakers or struggles to keep up when you’re running at full speed. And we’re obsessive about the measurements. Whether you’re using R7s or those specific SK pins, the length has to be spot on. If a lamp is off by even 2mm, it won’t sit right in the rack. That’s how you get uneven heat or—even worse—arcing at the terminals. Nobody wants to deal with that mid-shift.
Quartz and Heat
We use high-purity quartz glass because it can take the punch of rapid heating and cooling without cracking. These lamps push out shortwave IR radiation, which basically means the heat sinks into the PET much faster. If you’re dealing with thick-walled preforms, you need that high-wattage punch to keep your cycle times fast. But here’s a quick tip: if you’re pushing more wattage through a tight oven, your cooling blowers have to work harder. If your vents are clogged with dust, these lamps will run too hot and burn out way sooner than they should. Keep those fans clean.
Swap Them Out and Go
We designed these to be true drop-in replacements. You just pull the old tube out, wire the new one in, and you’re done. No drilling holes, no weird custom brackets, and no hunting for electrical adapters. It’s simple. You get rid of those annoying “cold spots” in the oven, which means fewer wasted bottles and a lot less scrap hitting the floor.
