
Getting More Out of Your Old Aoki Blow Molding Machine
You don’t actually have to scrap your entire oven just to get more bottles out the door. Most of the time, the real bottleneck in those mid-tier Aoki machines is just how fast the infrared lamps can move heat. If your preforms aren’t hitting that sweet spot—the glass transition temperature—consistently, you’re stuck slowing down the whole cycle. It’s frustrating. You know the machine can do more, but the heat just isn’t keeping up. The power side of things We build our replacement lamps to fit Aoki footprints exactly, but we crank up the wattage. Using high-wattage shortwave lamps puts more “punch” into the PET preform. It means you can speed up the machine without worrying about uneven heating. Just a heads-up: before you swap in a higher-wattage tube, double-check your wiring and power supply. You don’t want to be the person who trips a breaker or melts some insulation because the current draw was too high. Glass, plugs, and the “secret sauce” We use heavy-wall quartz glass for a reason. When things get blistering hot, cheap filaments sag. Ours don’t. We usually stick with R7s or SK15 connectors because they actually stay put. A loose connection is a nightmare—it creates an arc that’ll fry your socket in no time. Plus, we add a specific coating to the quartz. This shifts the emission spectrum so the heat actually sinks into the plastic. You want that deep heat, not just a scorched surface. Swapping them out (and the one catch) The good news? These are drop-in replacements. You pull the old ones out, wire these in, and you’re basically done. But here’s the thing: more energy means more heat. Since these lamps are pushing way more power per square inch, your cooling fans are going to have to work a lot harder. If your vents are clogged with dust or grime, the oven gets too hot. That’s when you start seeing “pearling” or overheating around the neck of the preform. Keep your airflow clear, and you’ll actually see the speed boost you’re looking for.
